Sweet 16 “Card” Monday, Apr 16 2007

Many of you already know that our youngest child, Katie, turned sweet 16 last Friday. Her godparents even came from Tennessee to visit for the special occasion. She was thrilled! Her present from her dad and I was her spring break trip back to Wichita. She was very content with her gift. But she did tell me more than once that she expected a birthday card. I didn’t get one made for her last year and she will never let me forget it. *smile*
So this year I sat down to make her a card and had a great idea. I made her a “card” she will always remember. This card took me ALL day, but it was so worth it. I got to use lots of my favorite trinkets and toys too. Pictures were hard to take, so please bear with me. I am posting some of them here and some of them in my Splitcoast gallery. I am really into 3-D objects and gifts lately. This will go down as one of my favorite creations.
I started with a plain white jewelry box that was approximately 4×4 and I covered it in paper and ribbon in Katie’s room theme of black and white. I made a hole in the top and a red heart eyelet was fastened there. Ribbon was threaded through the hole and knotted on each side. My aunt and I made 10 square panels- 5 in black and 5 white. We decorated them lots of ways and glued them together 2 at a time with the ribbon sandwiched between at about 4 inch intervals. At the end of the ribbon I added some pony beads. Red was also used as an accent color. Voila! Katie’s unforgettable birthday “card”. I stamped a greeting on another panel and attached it to the inside bottom of the box and here is where her dad and I signed the card. I also put some confetti inside for a little added fun.
The idea was that when she opened the box and lifted the lid the panels would topple out one by one and that is what happened. 10 cards in one you might say. I hope to get more jewelry boxes and make a few more of these. It was a lot of fun!

Katie’s 16 bouquet and card This pic is of the money bouquet from Katie’s godparents. Her godmother (my aunt) took over $60 in mostly one dollar bills and made them  into flowers and also stuffed them in the bottom. It was the best present and exactly what Katie wanted. Her card is sitting in front.

I saw a neat organizer at Hobby Lobby for $29.99.. It’s round and has little storage bins on three adjustable tiers…I might just go back and get one the next time I have a 40% coupon.
And a great idea too. I love organizers! Congratulations, Rita!
I’ll let you know where the money went as soon as I spend it!
Katie had a good sweet 16th…. thank you for the birthday wishes for her!

More Sweet Treats! Wednesday, Apr 11 2007

Okay…I like giving things away!
Hubby just gave me a little “mad money” (after a little bit of begging, okay a LOT of begging). And I want YOUR ideas on how to spend it. What treasures have you spent your money on lately and feel completely satisfied with your purchase? Have a bargain site to share? Mike’s or HL have an item that’s a “must-have”?
I have never used acrylic stamps, but am seriously considering some “Fancy Pants” stamps from Eclectic Paperie. What do I need to know about acrylics?
Post your comment here and on my baby’s sweet 16th birthday… this Friday, April 13th I will draw a random winner. IF I use your idea I will send you a little goodie too.
I don’t have a picture to post because I have not spent my mad money yet. Silly.

Winner Wednesday, Apr 11 2007

We have a blog candy winner. The Random Number Generator Site picked comment #2 which was Doverdi-
“Paper pricking backgrounds make very elegant wedding cards. Templates are available in different designs. Combine this with spirelli and you’re good to go. These two items combined make nice wedding invites.”
Please email me your address and I will get your goodies in the mail! Thank you all for your comments. Hopefully you will see an actual wedding invitation posted here one of these days! And more blog candy in the future. I’ve got lots of ideas up my sleeve.
I’ll have company for a few days beginning today, so you may not see a lot of me. But, I will check in!
Wednesday Blessings~ Angel

Don’t Throw it Away- Give it Away… Tuesday, Apr 10 2007

Today I thought I would share with you a couple of websites. Both are great alternatives to yard sales, throwing things away or selling on EBay.
http://www.poshpoints.com- This is a site where you get points for things you give away. These points enable you to “buy” someone else’s items. A trade-off you might say. Here you send your item to it’s new owner.
www.freecycle.org -This is a Yahoo group where you post items you have to give away. Groups are right in your own area so the new owner you choose will come and pick up their item. This week someone on my list was trying to give away Atlanta Braves tickets.
I am sure there are other websites out there that are similiar. Please share with me if you know of some.
Tomorrow I will draw for the blog candy winner. Don’t forget to leave me a wedding tip if you haven’t already. If you don’t have an invitation tip, leave me some type of wedding idea and I will still include you in the drawing.
Please forgive me for not knowing how to fix the font on this post.
Have a great Tuesday!

S.O.S. Thursday, Apr 5 2007

I’ve mentioned in a previous post that I am working on my son’s wedding invitations. Well…. I still don’t have a design and my deadline is looming. So, I am sending out an S.O.S.  (Seeking Out Stamping ideas?). Corny, I know. But, in other words, I am looking for help . If you have any ideas for wedding invitations or any tips at all,  please add a comment to this post.  Of course, I will compensate. I’ve started a little pile of goodies and plan to add to that.  For every 100 comments (1 per person please) I will add another winner. 100 comments equals 2 blog candy recipients.  If you have a picture to share, please add a link or you can email me your tip and the picture and I will be sure to include you in the drawing! Next Wednesday, April 11 I will draw the winner and post it here on my blog. Be sure to check back then! It will be a random drawing so even if I don’t use your idea, you could be the winner. I have heard there is some internet tool that can help with the number being generated.
Here is a pic of what I have so far for the “prize”. It includes a Stampin Up set- “Smorgasborders”, ribbon, chipboard tags cut from Cuttlebug, Mono Aqua liquid glue, refill blade cartridges and 3 large Primas.

Surely you have an idea for me???

Brandon & Faith Wednesday, Apr 4 2007

Those are the names of my 2 new godchildren-to-be. They are coming in May and I am so excited. I will be traveling to Virginia to be there soon after they are born.
Yesterday I put the finishing touches on some nursery decor and mailed them off. I had so much fun buying baby clothes. I didn’t have to ooh and ah over the girls things and have to buy boys things. Or see the cutest little boy outfits and have to buy the girl things. I got to buy BOTH! One pink and one blue of everything. It was so much fun. I should have taken pics before sending the loot. I went a little overboard. But even my hubby got excited buying baby things. He did have to drag me out of a few baby departments recently. But, I digress.
Here are the name frames for the twins.
FaithBrandon
I couldn’t find white frames anywhere so I bought the WalMart frames in black and hubby spray painted them white. The paint chips so easily though. I wish I could find white frames. Any tips?
I bought the chipboard “Chip Chatter” letters that I LOVE for the name frames. Again I bought white and painted them with acrylic paints. Only a small amount of stamping is actually done here and that is on the background pieces behind a few of the letters. I used a lot of different papers as well as ribbons. I couldn’t possibly name all of the sources. The metal pieces are mostly hodgepodge hardware from Stampin Up. The little safari animals are die-cuts from my Cuttlebug. I tried to match the nursery as best I could from a picture.
Nursery Items And then I made these. I  bought the door hanger from the Michael’s dollar bin. It said princess or something. Kevin painted it white for me. I then decorated it. It wasn’t exactly the picture I had in my head. And I wish I could say it was easy to do. It should have been. But instead of actually stampin on the wood I decided to cut out the letters from scrapbook papers. I printed the SHH (Backwards) onto the backside of the paper and cut it out.  Sounds easy, but for some reason it was not. My silly printer pulls the paper through and flips it over. It confuses me every time. The little box was from the unfinished wood section at H.L. I used a pencil eraser to make the polka dots in acrylic paints. And then added the safari diecuts. Easy Peasey as my friend Lori would say.
Thanks for looking.
Have a great day, friends! ~Angel

Fiber Swap Monday, Apr 2 2007

Jar of CandyJust a quick post this morning before I start making a baby gift that needs to go in the mail. Remember when I told you I save all kinds of stuff? Case in point is this Cheez Whiz jar I decorated for a quick and easy thank you gift. It was for Katie to take along with her to give to one of the hostesses who is letting her stay with them. The jar lid is red so the only way I know of to hide all of the red is by glueing the trim along the edge. This trim is one of those fun yarns from the knitting department. I bought an entire skein of it. I thought it would be fun to trade some of these yarns and fun firs. Cheaper fibers than buying them packaged….wouldn’t you say? Email me if you’re intersted in the swap and I’ll put it together. Let’s say one yard for each participant? Whatever fiber tickles your fancy as long as it seems good for paper crafting. Deadline is now April 23- Sign up by April 16th. Please email for more details!

Happy Monday to all~ Angel
